A SHOUT-OUT FOR THE K-9 HEROES
Orion gives a shout-out for Hurricane and Jordan, the Secret Service K-9's who ousted the White House fence jumper. He wonders why the White House didn't use their K-9 agents for the first fence jumper.

Archer,  NYC K-9 Police Squad
Cairo, another Belgian Malinois, was used by the Navy Seals to take out Osama bin Laden.

And I was able to get a shot of Archer who is a member of NYC's K-9 squad. He lives with his police officer's family and is best buddies with their eight year old son.

EMOTION SUPPORT ANIMALS (ESA)
PETS ALLOWED
It’s not unusual lately to see guardians with their animal companions in human-only, animal-unfriendly establishments, with the claim that these animals are their licensed companion animals and keep them mentally sound. The Service Animal Registry sells the certificates, vests and other paraphernalia to designate certification. But it’s quite easy to secure a certificate, and many people do so for economic benefits. Patricia Marx, (The New Yorker magazine October 20, discusses the confusion of what E.S.A. can legally do. http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/our-local-correspondents)

In my practice I’ve encountered guardians whose animal companions have saved them from checking out. “ As much as I wanted to end it all, my two cats and my
dog gave me my raison d’etre to live on,” said one of my clients.

In a church in London, a mellow kitty sat on the lap of one of the church goers who showed me his letter of certification from her doctors.
Time for some Loving
Pseudo or animal assistance impersonators spoil and undermine the human-animal connection or bond.  That should not be.  I see each day in my practice how much cats and other animal companions enrich the life of a family.

LIBRARY CONNECTIONS
Ramsey Library, Robotic Cat
My latest venue was Ramsey Public Library in New Jersey. Take a glance at the board for some of the timely questions.

AQUA THERAPY FUN
One of the questions came from a guardian with two aqua loving cats.  They splashed water from their water dish all over the floor. “It doesn’t matter how big a dish I provide. They use it as their wading pool,” she said.

“Move their water dish to the bathtub, and your guys can wade away to their paw’s content,” I said, “and no more flooded floors.”

JUNE BUG -- THE SHARE-A-CAT
In the Garden

It was June Bug’s garden time, and Tara’s June Bug time.  Tara had long yearned for a live-in cat, but her place was forever filled with luxury bridal veils and headpieces that she designed. What cat would be able to resist a knead here, a scratch there. But they say good things come to those who wait.

One morning Tara noticed a cat in her garden followed by her upstairs neighbor who shared the garden. She told Tara that she had adopted June Bug from a shelter and wondered if Tara would mind if June Bug hung out with her during the day as she worked long hours. Tara explained her fragile domestic situation but agreed to give June a try. She couldn’t resist  --  even if only for a day.  She and one of her assistants could keep watch over June and prevent any accidental destruction.
Wind Down After Garden Romp

So the very next morning Tara had a cat for a day.... and another and another ..... June Bug hardly glanced at the fragile merchandise. She preferred an empty lap, chaise and/or a romp or nap in the garden sun.

Tara wondered if this extraordinary cat had read the script. She felt she had won the lottery. Now June Bug not only hung out during the work day, she spent many an overnight and even a week when her upstairs guardian worked out of the city. Where there's a cat, there's a way!

A DOG JOINS THE TWO CAT SEATTLE FAMILY
(New Dog Introduction -- Competition)
Guy, a Seattle cat, frequently defecated here and there, in and about the apartment.  I did a Face Time consult to treat and resolve Guy’s issue.* That was two years ago. Recently, his guardians adopted Rei Chan, a young spayed dog. They contacted me to tell me how they continued to use the concepts of The Wilbourn Way for a copacetic introduction.**

“ We wanted you to see these pics of our three guys. So far so good. We’ll be sure to contact you if we need to prevent any glitches.”

Sure enough, a happy family makes me a very happy person.

*  Refer to any of my books, The Total Cat, etc., for info. on indiscriminate defecation

ORION'S CATITUDES

THE HEATING PAD IS OFF
A cat friendly,  temperature regulated heating pad soothes and relaxes most any cat who welcomes heat.  But Orion is perhaps an anomaly to this preference.  He showed me, more than once, that he prefers the retained heat of the thermostat that his furry body attracts. Another way to keep his environment “green.”

NATIONAL FERAL CAT DAY -- October 16

This very auspicious day was created fourteen years ago by Allie Cat Allies.

TNR-- Trap, Neuter, Release.
Orion, my recovering feral rescue, endorses this. In my practice I  have introduced many a feral kitten or cat to save the home of an aggressive or traumatized cat.   https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/feral-cat-day/
